GMT94 Yamaha Christophe Guyot boss looks ahead to 2021 and beyond as he outlines his aim of taking the team into WorldSBK…

The FIM Supersport World Championship in 2021 will see some of the most competitive racing in the class’ history, but one of the strongest teams is already eyeing up a move to the World Superbike category. Christophe Guyot’s GMT94 Yamaha team, who have run Jules Cluzel since 2019 and will have Federico Caricasulo alongside for 2021, are aiming to take to the premier class in the future as they plan to graduate right up to the pinnacle of production-derived action.

“Of course, when you enter the World Supersport Championship, it is because you expect to achieve the World Superbike Championship,” said team owner Christophe Guyot. “This is the target, the goal and the dream and it is underway. I can’t decide myself, it is not in my hands, but I have spoken to Gregorio Lavilla, the WorldSBK Exeuctive Director, for him to decide and now it is in his hands.”

The team will go into the 2021 World Supersport season with one of the strongest line-ups in recent seasons, with Federico Caricasulo stepping back into the class from WorldSBK, joining three-time runner-up and 2019 title rival Jules Cluzel. Cluzel was unfortunate not to win a race in 2020, having been injured in a crash whilst leading during the Teruel Round.

Aiming for a return to winning ways in 2021, Guyot said: “For sure, Federico is very motivated and he is very happy to join the team and to wear the #94. Like this, he enters the team and has a feeling to enter a family and he wants to wear this number for us. On the other side, Jules Cluzel is very happy and he also is very fast. Of course, I hope the situation will not be so easy, as that would mean we have the top WorldSSP team by the end of the Championship.”
